Thinning and Clearing
What is fire fuel reduction? It is the removal of plant materials, such as grasses, dead trees, and thick brush that act as fuel for forest fires. You don’t have to clear your entire property; tree thinning and brush clearing can offer a measure of protection.
Fire fuel reduction adds aesthetic value to your land and reduces the chance of a hot crown fire. Reducing fire fuels also makes it easier to defend your home and outbuildings in the event of a forest fire. Insurance companies recommend that if you are more than five miles away from a fire district that you have a deep defensible perimeter of at least 100 to 250 feet around your buildings. Some insurance companies may give a discount on your homeowner’s policy. Check with your agent.
